I decided 2018 was the year I prioritized my home and my health. I started turning my house into a place I loved coming home to. I wanted to share with you the things I have done to make my house a home. I hope this will inspire you to do the same.
1. Buy Things That You Love
The trendy style right now is rustic and farmhouse. It would be easy to go to any local home decor store and buy a bunch of stuff to make my house look super cute. But will not necessarily reflect you. And ultimately your home needs to be you. Things that I have bought that I love; the tent, the chalkboard, art books from an independent bookstore up in Madison, WI, the plants, Lola’s hand print and the macrame wall hanging.
2. Write an Inspiring Quote
I chose the quote “Don’t compare your life with others. There is no comparison between the sun and the moon. They shine when it’s there time.” It is so easy for me to get caught up in comparing myself with others. When I do this, it makes it very difficult to appreciate the beauty in my own life. If there is something you need to work on in your life, find an inspiring quote to reinforce your goal. This will further put energy towards positive development.
3. If It Doesn’t Make You Feel Good Pitch It!
Our culture has taught us to be consumers and hoarders. I believe that if you look at something and it doesn’t make you feel good, get rid of it! Clutter and objects suck energy out of you. Don’t let them! The easiest way to do this is to get a bag, walk around your house and throw everything that makes you feel uncomfortable in that bag. Once that bag is full, take it outside to the garbage and don’t look back!
The second part of this is crucial! Be mindful in your purchases. Next time you are at your favorite shop, don’t just buy something out of impulse. Similar to the food you intake, look at items not as nice items, but visualize the way they will affect your current space.
4. Play Music
Music will help improve your mood, relax you and make you feel happier. I have a small but powerful speaker that is Bluetooth and hooks up to my kindle fire. My favorite stations to listen to on Pandora are Indie Singer-Songwriters Radio, Jack Johnson and Donavon Frankenreiter Radio.
I hope these four tips have inspired you to make your home beautiful.
